How Do I Remove Paint Marks from Carpets or Rugs?

Oct 18, 2024 | Carpet Cleaning

You’ve just finished painting, and now there’s a paint stain on your carpet despite the dust sheets! It happens to the best of us, but don’t worry – the experts at East London Carpet Cleaning have got your back!

Our simple, effective guide will help you remove paint stains from your carpet in no time.

But before you start, always remember to test these techniques on a hidden section of carpet to avoid potential damage.

For Water-Based Paint Stains

  • Still wet? Gently blot the stain with a wet white towel—no scrubbing allowed!
  • Already dry? Mix hot water with washing-up liquid and let the solution sit for a few minutes to loosen the paint.
  • Use a butter knife or spoon to scrape away the softened paint, applying more solution as needed.
  • If the paint won’t budge, use a handheld steamer while scraping to help lift it.

For Oil-Based Paint Stains

  • Dry stains need a steamer to soften them up.
  • Steam directly onto the stain and use a butter knife or spoon to carefully break up the paint.
  • Continue until the stain is completely gone, taking care not to damage your carpet fibres.

If the stain persists, don’t stress.
